$50 millions funds Red River project on I-35

After a decade of collaboration, the Texas and Oklahoma Departments of Transportation and the Chickasaw Nation receive $50 million funding to help with the Red River project on I-35.

As the Red River bridge nears its 60th birthday, the outdated design is struggling to support current traffic volumes on I-35, the main connection between Texas and Oklahoma.

Traffic in this one passageway has crash rates higher than both state’s averages, which has made this project a priority.

The $50 million would go towards widening the interstate, flattening curves and constructing wider and higher bridges across the river.

Texas is our outlet on the world, a lot of Oklahoma products are actually shipped out of Texas ports.”
