WASHINGTON-Over inauguration weekend, thousands flocked to the nation’s capitol both in support and opposition of President Donald Trump.
Saturday: “The People’s March” saw individuals from across the nation gather on the National Mall to deliver speeches and sing songs calling for collective action, labor organizing, and general resistance to a second Trump administration.
Sunday: President-Elect Trump held a rally in Capital One arena celebrating his inauguration to come. Supporters were disappointed with the choice to move the Inauguration ceremony indoors due to the bitter cold in the district but still showed out in the well-known red “Make America Great Again” hats that commentator Megyn Kelly said, “used to be an act of civil disobedience… But wearing that hat for much of the past eight years has been an act of courage, too.”
Monday: Inauguration Day coincided with Martin Luther King Day. Visitors flocked to the Martin Luther King Memorial in Washington after the Inauguration ceremonies in celebration of King’s immense legacy, but also in hope for a bright future. President Trump referenced the occasion in his Inaugural address saying that the nation must realise King’s dream.
