A freshman pre-nursing major got into this week’s student-run dancing event because she wanted to make memories in her first year of college.
Now, Sophia Thiebaut wants to win the Union Programming Board’s Dancing with the Stars event because she sees it as an opportunity to pick up where she left off before college.
“In high school, we did a similar fundraiser,” said Thiebaut. “So, I got an email about it and I thought why not keep on the tradition, meet new people and just have fun with it.”
Although Thiebaut is not a dance major at the University of Oklahoma, her “campus celebrity” partner, senior Cameron Burleson, is expecting her to lead them to victory with her dance background. Thiebaut has been dancing on and off since she was three years old.
“I think she can carry us there,” said Burleson.
Thiebaut and Burleson have been practicing as much as possible to achieve their goal of winning. By show time, the couple will have practiced six or more times.
“We definitely want to win,” said Burleson. “I don’t think that it’s the most important thing, but it’s probably like a solid second.”
With the chance to take home $200, the duo is going all out for their performance. From the props to the costumes, the team thinks they have the “flare” to win.
The Dancing with the Stars event is Friday, Mar. 9, from 7-9 p.m. in Meacham Auditorium.
