The Union Programming Board gave young musicians an opportunity for exposure when they hosted the Sound Lounge event on Thursday. Students gathered in the Union Courtyard to relax, enjoy free snacks, and listen to young musicians at OU display their passion.
As over 80 students filled the courtyard, three musicians anxiously awaited their chance to impress the crowd. One of them was creative media production major, Ross DeFehr.
“I think if you do anything artistic, and you’re comfortable with it, you kind of have an obligation to share it. It’s cool to get to do that” Ross said.
The musicians played several of their own songs. Some of them were played for the first time in front of a crowd. This was a unique opportunity for freshman creative media production major, Jackson Baker.
“I don’t normally play my own music a lot in front of other people, and the fact that I played it and people had a really positive reaction to it was awesome” Baker said.
Not only did these musicians get the chance to show their skills, but they also got a chance to showcase their passion and creativity. Now, these young musicians hope to capitalize on this momentum, and continue to look for opportunities to share their work.,
“Playing music is such a big part of my life, and sharing that with people is a really amazing feeling” Baker said.
